MapleStory is a 2D multiplayer online game, developed in Korea, published by Nexon. The game is free but extra characters, enhancements and items have to be purchased for real money. It is a really popular game as it has over 50 million subscriber accounts.
The game goes, as players travel the Maple World, fighting monsters and developing their characters' skills and abilities. Interaction with others can de done in several ways, like through chatting, trading, and playing mini games. Groups of players also can join together in parties to hunt down monsters and share rewards.
New players are sent to Maple Island, specifically designed to be beginner-friendly.
MapleStory characters exist on the servers and players are allowed to create multiple characters in each world. You cannot choose a job when creating a character, every character starts with the beginner job.
There are more than a hundred available quests, each with varying prerequisites such as requiring the player to have attained a certain level or to have completed another certain quest. Items can be acquired from monster drops, purchased from other characters or shops, or obtained as rewards for completing a quest. Players are also able to trade items.
The Cash Shop is a virtual shop where players can buy items using real money, also Free Market is a place for people who wish to sell their items amongst other players; shops can be set up, allowing people to browse their stock.
